Energy Conservation for Local bodies

During the awareness campaign conducted by TEDA at district level, the need for and the benefits of energy conservation and energy efficiency is invariably explained in detail.  As a result village panchayats have initiated action not only in using renewable energy devices such as SPV street lights, home lights, pumps, wind mill water pump, biomass gasifier, toilet linked biogas plants but also other energy conservation measures so as to reduce the energy consumption and consequent recurring expenditure. One such village panchayat is Kuthambakkam in Thiruvallur district, whose president took the initiative and replaced about 400 nos street lights with 40 W tubelights in his village to 18 W CFL lamps thereby achieving energy saving to an extent of 50 %. Further he arranged for making of the 18 W CFL lamp fitting by Self Help Groups in his village itself providing a source of income for them.

Battery Operated Vehicle

Importance

Battery Operated VehicleBattery operated vehicles  (BOVs) are run by batteries and are free from noise and air pollution. They are ideally suited for cities where vehicular pollution is enormous. The BOV runs by a DC motor powered by a rechargeable battery. The speed is controlled by an Electronic Chopper Controller. The steering, braking etc are conventional type only.

Types of Vehicles (subject to changes)

BOVs are available as passenger cars, 10 seater auto rickshaws and 12 seater vans.
